How to Analyse the Audience in An Inspector Calls
Analysing the audience is such an important part to analysing 'An Inspector Calls'. Why? Because unlike with poetry or fiction, it is a medium designed to be performed in the moment to its audience. There's therefore a much closer connection and relationship between audience and play. It's particularly true for 'An Inspector Calls' because the play is also so much about real life Britain and trying to give a strong moral message to the British audience watching.
Despite this, many students do not talk about the audience at all. Or, if they do, it is in very generic terms like 'this makes the audience feel shocked'.
Having an insightful understanding of the audience's reaction to the events in 'An Inspector Calls' is a fantastic way to push your essays to the higher levels and reach those top grades. So, in this video, I talk you through how to do just that. In this video, we go beyond basic emotion buzzwords to explore how you can treat the audience as an active, shifting participant in the drama.
